This project consists of a two-story, 15,700-square-foot facility dedicated to preserving the history of African American baseball and sharing it with the community. It includes a museum, theater, restaurant, and open-air terrace to serve those goals. In 2018 this project won an AIA Birmingham Design Award. The structure includes a steel framework, with a terrace level constructed of composite steel beams and concrete deck, and roof systems constructed of steel joists and metal decking. The building utilizes spread-footings, grade beams, and rammed aggregate piers for its foundation system.
MBA Engineers, Inc. also provided civil design services for this project.
